Description
An actively growing portion of the diploid thallus (plasmodium) is supplied. Usually the bright yellow plasmodium has moved out sufficiently for observation under a dissecting microscope.
Slime molds help decompose mulch and may compete with soilborne plant pathogens. (Eukaryotic organisms – Protoctista)
Slime molds are more closely related to amoebas.
