Description

Onychophora, or Velvet worm, any of about 70 wormlike species of ancient, terrestrial invertebrates with short, thick legs and a dry, velveteen body. Onychophorans range in size from 14 to 150 mm (about 0.6 to 6 inches) and are found in rainforests. They cannot tolerate dry habitats as they are unable to control water loss.
